So first things first, I’d like to apologize for this being as overdue as it is. I wanted to make this as accurate as possible and that required some research plus there were some times when I didn’t want to do anything or I was busy or both!
Now let’s talk about the “caste system”. While doing my research I was reminded that it wasn’t just India that had a “caste system”. Now this is important for two reasons; 1.) I mainly made mention of the Indian one (which was unnecessary). 2.) The Indian caste system is a system of "social stratification" and "social restriction".
What is important here is “social stratification” and “social restriction”. Social restriction is self-explanatory I think so let’s explore “social stratification”.
A social stratification is a concept of class, involving the "classification" of persons into groups based on shared social-economic conditions. Now if you’re thinking like I am this is interesting but wait there more:
In modern Western societies, stratification is broadly organized into three main layers: upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes (e.g. occupational).
Ok so this sounds really fancy but what does this have to do with a “verbal caste system”? Whenever you decide to speak, the words and contents for those words you’ve chosen are either consciously or sub-consciously categorize and people will make judgments basted off how you choose to articulate what you feel or think.
This is critical for a variety of reasons. From an activist standpoint if you cannot gather your thoughts the right way it will be difficult if not impossible to get you point across which will grossly hinder any necessary change. From a business perspective if you can’t correctly articulate your position on a matter, you will not be considered for that job!
So how do we fix this? Urban youth in particular usually sound uneducated when they speak and some people just haven’t been provided with the right atmosphere to even care.
Well there is a lot that I could say about this but I’m only going to sub jest one thing, strongly include vocabulary building and programs in schools! And after that just some self-practice. We have to be self-empowered people or we’ll never succeed.
Peace
