Blogging for my first time, this should be a delight!
During our first workshop at DMH, we discussed the topic of progression. We mentioned a great portion of Malcom X's life while in prison, since it served as a well example of his new-found (now old) for of progress.
The discussion that followed was pretty intense, it was a real mind-opener. It goes to show that even the dingiest of people can be some of the best of people, and all that's really needed is to be the best at what you do! In Malcom X's case, he was the best on the streets, and later became the best on the mic.
Before that, the fellows and myself were asked to fill in the blank, "Evidence of someone progressing is..." and I must say, it was a quite a challenging task! Sadly, most of us answered the same. We all ended up saying things about change, improvement, etc. As good (and right) as some of what we said was, I feel like it was so typical of us. I was hoping either me or anyone else would think outside of the box, but I've grown to learn that that isn't as easy as it looks!
I hope to improve my own way of thinking before I expect such things from others.
