My characteristic that sometimes does more harm than good is definitely my sarcasm. Sometimes when I oppose something, instead of saying flat out "That's a bad idea," I laugh it out and am very sarcastic. If I don't want to take something seriously, I'm sarcastic. But sometimes, my sarcasm gets me into situations I don't like. Have you ever been sarcastic to a teacher, sometimes they'll laugh it out, and other times they'll make a fool out of you. Usually I can get out of a situation like that, being that I'm a good student. And sometimes I'm sarcastic to other people and they'll find it very rude and offensive towards them. When I'm sarcastic to my dad, I can get in real trouble because he doesn't like disrespect (I mean, really. Who does?) and being that he's an immigrant, he doesn't fully understand sarcasm, so he gets angry. Honestly, I used to be so sarcastic, I couldn't control it. I would just blurt out things, but after training to keep my sarcastic mouth shut for a while, I've sorta trained myself to use sarcasm only when it's necessary, and remember that life isn't a disney channel show (where they're usually very sarcastic)...
In response to bintus comment, it might not necessarily become a strength, but sarcasm isn't always bad, and theres always gonna be a time for it, but when it's time to get serious, I need to learn to control it.
